The Faithful and The Corrupt
No man is truly great who is great only in his lifetime. The test of greatness is the page of history.
William Hazlitt
The Bible is full of people from many different walks of life. There are kings, shepherds, maidens, harlots, disciples, giants, evil queens, etc…
And God has given us their stories, not only so we can learn of their heroic acts or heinous crimes, but also so we can learn how and why they made those choices. I feel it is important to not just know the stories of people like Ruth and David, but also to contemplate the circumstances, emotions, or thoughts they might have had while going through it. They were just people living the life given to them like you and me. We might have more in common with them than previously believed.
I also believe the quote from George Santayana that says, “Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”
God gave us so much to learn from these people on a spiritual level; would it not be foolish of us to not take notice and take heed? Why go through the same problems when we can learn from someone else’s mistakes? Or why not grow bolder because of the power we have seen those of faith have?
My desire is to not just hear the stories of people in the Bible but to also learn from them: to hear their wisdom, to see God’s warning, and to increase our faith.
Let us connect our faith from one soul to another.
